Best Projects Award Guidelines
Inspiration Software is celebrating its 25th anniversary of inspiring excellence with visual learning by offering $1,000 scholarships to 25 educators for best use of Inspiration®, InspireData™ and Kidspiration® in the classroom.
Tell us about your best project using visual learning and enter to win one of 25 $1,000 scholarships to be used for professional development in visual learning and technology or for the purchase of classroom technology. In addition, one outstanding entry will be selected as "Best Overall Visual Learning Project" and receive a $1,000 bonus!
Why visual learning?
Research has shown that visual learning is one of the best methods for teaching thinking skills. Visual learning techniques-graphical ways of working with ideas and presenting information-teach students to think clearly and to process, organize and prioritize information. Eligibility
To be eligible for a scholarship, the candidate must be employed as an educator in a K-12 (age 5 & up) school or institute of higher learning and have at least one year of continuous service as an educator. Candidate should demonstrate direct contact with students when completing application process. Scholarship winners from 2007 are not eligible to apply for the 2007-2008 program.
Fundable activities
$1000 scholarship awards must be used either to purchase classroom technology or to participate in professional development activities that focus on visual learning and technology.
Amount of award
Eight scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded in each of three categories: Inspiration, InspireData and Kidspiration. In addition, one entry will be selected as "Best Overall Visual Learning Project" and receive a $1,000 scholarship, plus a $1000 bonus.
Important dates
All completed applications must be postmarked or submitted online on or before January 25, 2008. Scholarship recipients will be notified by February 25, 2008.
Application requirements
A complete application must include the following:
- A completed entry form
- A letter written by the candidate that addresses in separate paragraphs each of the following topics:
a. Provide a complete description of the project. Include grade level and subject area, the purpose of the project, the learning requirements met by the project, how the project was executed and the results of the project.
b. Discuss the reasons you chose to use Inspiration, InspireData or Kidspiration for the project. Describe the role the software played.
c. Share at least two examples from the project of completed work in Inspiration, InspireData or Kidspiration. Please attach at least two Inspiration, InspireData or Kidspiration files that demonstrate the project.
d. Describe how you plan to use the scholarship funds, if awarded. If you plan to purchase classroom technology, provide details of the technology and discuss how it will be used in the classroom. If you plan to use the funds for professional development in visual learning and technology, describe the workshop, course, conference or event you plan to attend and describe how you plan to use and share what you have learned.
Judging criteria
Applications will be judged in Inspiration Software's sole discretion based on the following criteria:
- The candidate's demonstrated innovation in creating and executing a project based on visual learning techniques.
- The candidate's demonstrated understanding of visual learning and its impact on student learning and achievement.
- The candidate's described use of funds and demonstrated need for the technology or training.
